The Church is the first Baptist Church in Uganda that was planted in 1961 by Baptist Missionaries under Conservative Baptist Mission currently called World Venture who were fleeing from the wars in Congo in the early 1960’s.
The Church was banned for two years from 1977 to 1979 during President Amin Ddada’s reign. Amin banned all the Churches except the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Church. During this time the Christians joined the nearby Anglican Churches until President Idd Amin Ddada was overthrown in 1979.
Nyabugando Baptist Church was initially led by the late Rev. Amona Bisika and his Assistant Pastor Andrea Lubono who came with the Missionaries from Congo and stayed in Bwera for a while and later were given a piece of land in Nyabugando by the lord of ridges then called Muhanika.
The Missionaries continued to Kampala where they started Kampala Baptist Church and left Rev Amona Bisika leading the Church. Nyabugando Baptist Church is currently led by the senior Pastor Rev. Masereka Sitariko and his assistants Pastor Muhindo Damsony and Pastor Thembo Heri.
Over the years we have baptized and discipled over 800 Christians fellowshipping from different Churches of whom others are church leaders in Kasese Baptist Association of Churches and beyond.
